Who We Are
CO2 Technologies is a research and marketing company specializing in
extending the life of perishable products. Our products feature a
patented process that releases carbon dioxide (CO2
) and water (H2
O) to prevent the growth of bacteria on fruits, vegetables, meat, seafood,
deli items, and flowers,
allowing them to stay fresher longer.
CO2 Technologies is headquartered in Urbandale, Iowa, with additional
representatives throughout North America, South America, and Europe.
How It Works
The patented CO2 Technologies system releases molecules of CO2
on a continuous basis to keep food and other products looking fresh for
a longer period of time – well up to their sell-by date. Here’s the
impact it has on perishables:
- When CO2
hits the moisture on the surface of food products, it turns to carbonic
acid. When the increased level of carbonic acid is enough to affect pH,
all bacteria sensitive to higher acidic levels ceases to grow –
ensuring freshness and preventing shrinkage.
- Rapidly expanding CO2
cools as it expands. As moisture in our product’s reaction evaporates,
heat is absorbed. The result is colder air temperatures, so perishable
product cases can maintain their temperature with less energy.
- Oxygen and ethylene can shorten the life of persihables. The heavier CO2
released from our products displaces the lighter oxygen and ethylene
gases, forcing it away from the surface of perishable items such as
fruits, vegetables, meat and flowers
